Figure out your financial goals
What are your financial goals? This is an important question to ask yourself when you are figuring out what you want to do as a job or career. Work at home programs have a variety of financial possibilities, from babysitting for $100 a week to on-line jobs or opportunities that pay thousands per week. You have to remember though, these on-line jobs are not GET RICH QUICK scams, and if anyone that tells you you will be making thousands in the next ten minutes you need to RUN away...and fast! With hard work you can make good money on the Internet, but that isn't our topic for today....we can save that one. Today is what are YOUR financial goals?
* First, figure out what money you would like to bring into your home. Are you trying to supplement a spouses income? Supplement your own income? Replace your "day job"?
* Do up a budget. If it is just you, then sitdown with your favorite snack, a pad of paper and pencils, and get busy. If you are married I highly suggest donig the budget WITH your spouse (if at all possible). This way you are both on the same page. I have made up budgets for our home before and presented it to my husband. This works with limited success. He knows the information now, but his decisions are really afterthoughts about where I put what money. I suggest doing it together, or perhaps if you feel the need, gather your reciepts, bills, etc. before hand to make it easier. Once again, get some "comforting" refreshments, pads of paper, pencils, and figure out what you spend where. This is another topic we can discuss more in-depth later. :)
* The last thing for today is to figure out where you want to be in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years. If you do the same thing you've always done, you will get the same results! (That isn't rocket science, just good common sense!) So, if your goals for 10 years from now is to put a kid through school, or pay for a wedding, and you are barely making ends meet now, then you need to re-evaluate what it is you are doing! Be specific with what you want to accomplish and WRITE IT DOWN! Also be specific with how it is you are going to accomplish your goals. "I want a mansion in 3 years and I am going to stay at my current job making 42K a year" isn't a good goal combination. Try to make your goals reasonable, or find some different ways to accomplish them. Do something different...you will get different results! And when I say different, I mean a positive change, one that will work well for you and your family.

Why I started this blog...
I'm a stay home mom, I admit it! And I love it! If any of you are like me, I love to stay home with my children! I really do. I'm not going to be crazy and say I love the laundry, the sweeping and the fingerprint dury...but I do love the fact that I can stay home and raise my family. However, sometimes I feel the need to do more! Not that wiping noses isn't thrilling....I really wanted to utilize my other talents and bring some extra money into my home.
So I've started researching some work at home opportunities for stay home moms, or anyone that wants to get busy earning some good money from home! What I have come up with has surprised me and made me smile. I don't have to leave my four children with a babysitter to help out with our family income! That is fantastic news!!

What I have come up with has surprised me and made me smile. I don't have to leave my four children with a babysitter to help out with our family income! That is fantastic news!!
Here are some things I have found out so far:
START WITH YOUR STRENGTHS!
What are you good at? Are you awesome with kids? Do you play an instrument? Were you a superstar at school? Take these things and use them. Now, this kind of work at home job can bring in a couple hundred dollars per month.(or more depending on the time you want to put in...) These are perfect when you just need to help "top off" the family income. I have actually done all of these things and they were great for the time.
1)Babysitting in your home. If you have kids, this can be a great opportunity. Make sure you create a schedule that doesn't take too much time away from your own children. There are so many working parents out there that really want to find a good person to watch their kids, someone who will be kind and treat them well. How do you find these people that need your services? MARKETING! Put fliers up on the local mailboxes, on the grocery store bulletin boards, or community hall. The other things is to not be afraid and really promote yourself! Talk it up with people you meet, or other parents at the preschool or elementary school.
2) Giving instrumental or voice lessons. Now, I can appreciate this isn't for everyone. You can't teach what you don't know. (or so it is said!) But if you do have these talents, brush up on your own talents, really magnify them, then start marketing! Get your name out there with the fliers, and word of mouth. Depending on your own levels, start with teaching beginners, and work your way up. This can yeild as much money as babysitting for a full day, just in an hour of lessons!
3) Tutoring. Market yourself to the high schools and junior highs. Put notices in the teachers work rooms for them to refer you to their students. I would also put up notices at the grocery stores and community centers to catch the eyes of watchful parents.
There are lots of opportunities, and I will continue to put more on as time permits! I know that we can work at home and be happy with the quality of our lives!
